Goals of Maui Preserve
- Provide a safe and natural environment for Koko and other gorillas-the first gorilla sanctuary outside Africa
- Create a forum for Koko to act as ambassador to save her species from extinction (at the hands of humans).
- Continue the legacy of interspecies communication-for our children…
- Create a unique educational center (i.e., Visitor Center) that inspires via:
- Virtual immersion (versus intrusion) in the Sanctuary (via technology)
- Hands-on interactive learning kiosks (on sign language and great apes)
- Live interactions with Koko and Dr. Penny Patterson (via videoconference)
- World--class experts on great ape and environmental conservation
