Koko, high atop her favorite shelf in the outdoor yard, looks through a plastic bag loaded with veggies (aka "browse") to decide what she"ll eat next as part of her snack.

We track the gorillas" food preferences very carefully, not only in terms of what and how much and often they eat, but even what they eat first (, second and third) - and what they ask for (often in sign language) - in order to satisfy both their wants and their nutiritional needs. Interestingly, gorillas seem to need much of what they want (in contrast to some of us humans).
