Koko has appeared on the cover of two National Geographic magazines: 1978 and 1985. The 1978 article introduced Project Koko to the world with a photo of Koko taking her own picture in the mirror (a self portrait) with Founder Ron Cohn's camera. The 1985 article featured Koko's relationship with (and loss of) her first kitten All-Ball, which changed people's perspectives about gorillas forever. Both articles still have great educational value, and can be obtained directly from National Geographic by ordering the back issues (1978 and 1985) for approximately $10 each. (Visit National Geographic's website or email them.)
