Dr. Gary Stanley Tate Kubose, Ph.D.
Assistant Manager of Gorilla Care and Research

Tate earned his doctoral degree in Cognitive Psychology from UCLA and has held postdoctoral positions at Columbia University and at the Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology at the University of Illinois. He has studied a variety of topics, such as human memory and problem solving, medical errors, the effects of cellphone use on driving performance, and how humans interact with products in their environment.

Upon leaving a career in scientific consulting and joining The Gorilla Foundation, Tate was excited to have found a way to combine his love of animals with his previous experience in managing research projects and teams. In addition to managing and supporting the research and gorilla care team members, he also helps the Foundation address many of its ongoing projects, such as those involving data archiving, maintenance and upgrading of the gorilla facilities, and planning and activities related to the Maui Ape Preserve.

Through his efforts, Tate hopes that he can help the Foundation’s dedicated researchers, caregivers, and volunteers in turn help Penny, Ron, Koko, and Ndume promote the Foundation’s mission of Conservation through Communication.
