[title] => Koko's Wonder Dog: Rikki Power
[body] => Rikki Power is an extraordinary dog:
1) She's the first dog that Koko has ever really liked having around almost as much as a kitten.
2) Though she's only 1 year old (a Pound Puppy pup), Rikki has become the perfect gorilla watchdog, and sidekick for Max (who loves her almost as much as Flower).
3) She is so fast, that she often becomes just a blur on the radar screen for both humans and gorillas.
4) She's an excellent gorilla playmate for one of their favorite games "chase" (she stays outside the mesh of course).
5) And, yes, she even responds to some sign language commands (like sit, stay, down and come) and uses a language board to convey important needs (sign language appears to be a useful tool for canine pups as well as human ones).

Join us in wishing Rikki Power a happy first birthday at The Gorilla Foundation. Koko kisses her baby doll-and kitty doll

If you look carefully (see inset of an earlier photo, in upper left corner) you can see that Koko is not only kissing her baby doll (aka "WaterBaby"), she"s making her favorite baby kitten doll (which is grey and looks an awful lot like her first kitten, AllBall) kiss WaterBaby. [title] => Rikki Power is holding her own as a gorilla"s (second) best friend.
[body] => When Rikki Power (left) came on board about a year ago at just 7 weeks of age to prepare for her new role as gorilla companion animal (following the passing of Flower), there was some doubt that she would ever be able to fill Flower"s shoes (so to speak) because of her cuteness and diminutive size.

However, Rikki has turned out to be a super dog: bigger, stronger, faster and more intelligent than we ever imagined; bounding large distances in the flick of an eye, helping us clear branches as we cut foliage for the gorillas, and giving Max (right) a real run for his dogfood. Yet she"s still as sweet as when she was a small pup.

Just goes to show what a little love, high hopes and discipline can do for an animal. (It"s the secret of successful great ape behavioral research too.) [title] => Koko opens her Valentine"s Day presents
[body] => Koko receives Valentine"s Day presents from Penny, Ron and other admirers. Notice the smile on her face as she discovers her gifts include pretty pink and red pillows, fluffy rugs and stuffed animals. How did Koko"s admirers know what would make her happy? She told them, of course.

Regarding the question associated with the Feb. 12 KokoPix ("What is Koko Thinking"): Koko is looking at an electric music box in the form of a carousel. When the carousel is turned on, it plays various holiday songs while the carousel figures rotate. Koko has told us that she loves the musical carousel by requesting it often and listening to the music. What is she thinking at the moment of this photo? Probably not very much; she's just listening to the music, and the silence between the notes . . .
